The International Coach Federation released a study in 2012 that showed that there are almost 48,000 life coaches internationally and almost 16,000 of those are based in North America. A CAM study reports that over a third of Americans have tried some kind of complementary and alternative medicine, showing that there’s a large percentage of people who are open to trying holistic methods to improve their health and life generally.
Does a Holistic Approach Help?
Mindfulness is important and we don’t often take the whole body and its needs into account. Medicine often targets just the problem itself and doesn’t take into account what’s going on in a larger scale, which may be causing the problem in the first place.
Around 18 million adults use meditation to help with stress relief and other illnesses or maladies that are caused by stress. In 2012, 36 trials were reviewed and 25 out of the 36 showed that there were more positive outcomes for patients who displayed signs of anxiety who participated in the meditation groups versus the control groups.
Mindfulness is also important. Thirteen studies of mindfulness-based interventions to help people quit smoking had positive results in terms of craving, smoking cessation, and preventing a relapse, according to a review released in 2015. The National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health (NCCIH) funded a small study that had 54 adults who suffered from chronic insomnia. They learned mindfulness-based stress reduction that was specifically tailored to deal with insomnia or a self-monitoring program. Both programs which used meditation helped with sleeping, but the mindfulness based therapy had better success rates than the self-monitoring program.
Additionally, it’s shown that writing in a gratitude journal can help improve how you sleep, says a study published in 2011 in the Applied Psychology: Health and Well-Being. It can take as little as 15 minutes to write down what you’re thankful for and your sleep may be better and longer!
How Can a Holistic Health Life Coach Help Me?
Whether you get a holistic health life coach, a personal life coach, or a more specific kind of coach, such as a spiritual life coach or a relationship coach, these individuals will help you achieve your best self.
Over 65% of life coaching clients said that they had a higher level of self-awareness after they’d worked with their coach and over 60% said they set goals in a smarter fashion after they’d worked with their coach. These individuals can help you reach a better balance in your life and increase harmony, as well as help you avoid medicine and other pharmaceuticals. Alternative medicine can be incredibly cleansing and useful and you may feel even better after trying the natural techniques they suggest.
If you’re looking for an alternative method for solving a spiritual, emotional, or physical issue, try consulting a life coach or a doctor who practices alternative medicine or homeopathy. A blend of modern medicine and natural medicine can often work wonders in tandem — it doesn’t have to be just one or the other.
